Heat Reuse – Connection to A2A District Heating

Client: A2A Calore e Servizi

Services in this project:
  • Preliminary design
  • Final design

The project involves the construction of a facility, set to be operational in the early months of 2026, through which the waste heat from Retelit's Avalon 3 Data Center will be fed into Milan’s district heating infrastructure, managed by A2A Calore e Servizi. This initiative will increase the availability of green energy for families in the western area of the city.

The project will provide heating for 1,250 additional households per year, leading to energy savings of 1,300 tons of oil equivalent (TOE) and preventing the emission of 3,300 tons of CO₂, with environmental benefits equivalent to the contribution of 24,000 trees. The facility will supply the network with 2.5 MWt of annual thermal power and an increase of 15 GWh in recoverable energy.

The scope of work includes the design and construction supervision of the heat recovery system, the definition of the installation works—including the engineering of a prefabricated container equipped with internal systems—and the management of all structural and plant testing.

The project is being developed using BIM methodology to ensure high quality, reduced errors, and greater control over time and costs.
