The approach to the architectural design of the new Al Qassimi Women's and Children's Hospital located in the city of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates revolves around the development of the principle of integration between architecture and its surrounding environment, focusing on emphasising the relationship between the building and its setting.

The hospital complex was designed to embody a part of the city: it stands near two major traffic routes (Sultan Al Quassimi St. and Wasit St.) in a residential district which is highly urbanised and adjacent to the existing General Hospital.
