The activities of the Tunnel Safety Manager and its Deputy, under Italian Legislative Decree 264/06 for tunnels within the jurisdiction of the IV Section of the Italian motorway system of Autostrade per l'Italia include the following functions for each tunnel:

• the inspection of tunnel safety measures in compliance with Italian Legislative Decree 264/2006 with the use of the on-site checklist developed by DBA Pro.;
• a photographic report on the condition of the tunnel, with reference to compliance with the safety measures prescribed by the decree, including any irregularities found;
• measurements and instrumental analyses, as well as the exchange of results;
• documentation audits on the state of maintenance of the tunnel through the acquisition of maintenance reports issued by the relevant departments of Autostrade per l'Italia. More specifically, in conformity with the provisions of Article 6 of Italian Legislative Decree 264/2006, the assessment of the status of routine maintenance (overhauls, inspections and repairs) and extraordinary maintenance (replacements, repairs, modifications);
• checks on the correct compilation of fire registers according to UNI9994 and Italian Presidential Decree 151/11;
• verifications on the luminance of the tunnel by reviewing the documentation provided by Autostrade per l'Italia;
• the inspection of the state of deterioration of the tunnel and sharing of the results via an interactive report developed by DBA PRO.;
• analysis of company software applications for the management and/or remote management of tunnel safety systems;
• performance testing of the control systems and related regulation logic of the tunnel ventilation systems for the management under fire emergency conditions. This includes checking the consistency and conformity of the control systems with the provisions of the project documents through White Tests;
• consulting and support in the drafting of emergency plans;
• the review of training of operational staff and emergency services as required by Italian Legislative Decree 264/06: organisation of briefings and tunnel inspections;

The organisation of full-scale drills in compliance with Italian Legislative Decree 264/06, which requires:

• the verification of the communication flows within Autostrade per l'Italia and between the rescue services that are part of the response system in the event of an accident in a motorway tunnel, in compliance with Italian Legislative Decree 264/2006;
• the assessment of the activities, of the management decisions, of the application of the procedures foreseen and planned in the event of a major incident in a motorway tunnel, of the adequacy of the arrival and intervention times, of the operational methods and the management of the event by the operators in the field and by those in the Operator's Radio Room (hereafter CRI) and the operational centres of the Authorities involved; 
• monitoring the performance of the equipment present in the tunnel;
• the evaluation of user response and the identification of any critical factors.
